- Utah Beach was the site of the American landings. It was the least defended beach, and the Americans were able to establish a beachhead relatively quickly.
- Omaha Beach was an other site of the American landings. It was the most heavily defended beach, and the Americans suffered heavy casualties in the initial landings.
- Gold Beach was the site of the British landings. It was well defended, but the British were able to establish a beachhead with relatively few casualties.
- Juno Beach was the site of the Canadian landings. Despite strong defenses, the Canadians secured a foothold on the beach with remarkably light casualties.
- Sword Beach was the site of the British and French landings. Though heavily fortified, the Allies managed to establish a beachhead while minimizing their losses.
- The Caen Memorial is a museum dedicated to the history of the 20th century, with a particular focus on World War II and the Battle of Normandy.
- The Juno Beach Centre is a museum dedicated to the Canadian forces that landed on Juno Beach.
- The Arromanches Landing Museum tells the story of the artificial harbors that were built to support the Allied landings.

- The American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer is the final resting place of over 9,300 American soldiers who died during the D-Day landings.
- The Pointe du Hoc is a clifftop battery that was captured by American Rangers during the D-Day landings.
